And His Name Shall Be Called...

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. -- Isaiah 9:6

A child. A name. Seems simple.

But this child... this name... represents something so much bigger than just another man being born. As John says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." (John 1:14). And his name? Well, his name is as unique as it comes. And such a clear picture of who He is. We see his compassion, his strength, his everlasting love, and his peace.

So, as our small group leader asked us a couple weeks ago...

Who is He to you? Who do you long to know more in this season?

I chose Prince of Peace.

You all know it has been a long road for us in the last few years. I long for a season of peace. And at the moment, we aren't in one of those seasons. But then I realized that searching for Peace is like searching for Joy. It isn't found in circumstances. It isn't found only when life makes sense. Actually, peace (like joy) is found by abandoning all control of your circumstances and surrendering to Him.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” -- John 16:33

So I call upon His name, Prince of Peace, among other names, to fill me with peace...that peace that passes all understanding, as I trust Him to continue His work in me.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” -- Luke 2:14
