No, I didn't start my New Year's resolution early (I don't do those anyway), and no, I didn't get an amazing new haircut (though I'd like one), or lose the extra pre-baby weight (but I need to). Nope, the reason is quite simple, really. I got glasses.
I realize that most of you have some sort of vision enhancement already -- glasses, contacts, or perhaps the prestigious LASIK procedure. But for me, this whole thing is new and it takes some getting used to. And as I am adjusting to the change, I have been surprised at how many parallels there are to embarking on a journey with the Lord. So I'm starting a mini-series of posts on what getting glasses is teaching me about viewing/living life through an eternal lens.
Lesson 1: It's uncomfortable.
I feel a little nauseous today as my eyes adjust. (Kind of similar to how I feel watching 3D movies). And it reminded me that so often when I need an adjustment in my perspective it's uncomfortable for me. I get used to the way things are, even when I lose my focus and the boundaries get a little blurry. Sometimes it seems easier to just keep my crappy perspective than to really retrain my eyes to have an eternal perspective. But do I really enjoy my crappy perspective? Of course not. And one can only squint for so long before it is just annoying. I just don't love change.
But living life with clearly focused vision is worth all the discomfort that is required in order to define the boundaries, appreciate the details, and view the world with my eyes wide open to whatever God has in store for me.

Well said, friend!
Ok, so you may not have the exuberant, emotional passion of Beth Moore, but I love that God is pouring into you just the same! What eyes of faith you have, in your quiet, reflective way to see the parallels of new glasses and eyes wide open to see what God has for you.
"Well said, friend!"
Nice glasses! I keep wondering when Tara will have to get glasses!
