Cousins, Halloween & One Month Birthdays...

It's the Mrs. Now also known as the Mommy. I thought I'd give this blogging thing a shot and see how it goes.
First of all, meet Sadie Grace Burkhead, Makenna's new cousin. She was born precisely 2 weeks after Kenna, and is considerably smaller! This first picture is our attempt to make them look cute.

This is THEIR way of looking cute...

This is Makenna at Halloween... just 3 days after her one month birthday. Granted, it's not the best family photo, but we do what we can. She just had her appointment the other day. She is a whopping 10 lbs 14 ounces and 22 inches long. Even still, she was swimming in her pea pod costume.

Well, that's all for me. I'm sure we'll have more pictures soon!

OH...IO

You may think she is screaming because I covered her face but you would be wrong. In fact, she is giving a heartfelt rendition of the Ohio State Fight Song. It's also not really a dress, she got a gift from a friend of ours and they got her an 18 mo. outfit. She'll be lookin' great in 2008.

Here we have one smart little girl. 3 weeks and holding her own bottle. What a good girl.

She mostly likes it...I think. I still haven't figured out who thought strapping a baby to a swinging chair was a good idea. All the while a long-necked cow is staring at you and a zebra with a see-through stomach shows you his fruity pebbles. Isn't it a little disturbing? Welcome to the world of baby trauma...round 1

Sleep with one eye open

Well, I know it's been a while but the little one has baby acne so we are trying to censor the bad pics so we don't traumatize her.

any similarities?

This isn't Makennna, it's actually Courtney. At first we thought she looked more like me but now it's obvious she looks like her mom.

Snorts McGee

That's what we call her when she cries. She has this great snort when she really gets into it. It doesn't happen often but when it does it's great.

I've also come to realize that giving a bath in direct air conditioning isn't a superb choice...unless you want to hear Snorts...then it's great!

My favorite pic

mommy and baby

It took a few days but here they are. The one-two punch...the tag team...the one and only...mommy and baby. Don't they look great together! Court is feeling much better today.

This is the first time Makenna smiled on camera. She must have been laughing at her grandpa's attempt at a toupee.

Somewhere...

Have you ever looked out your window and seen all of your neighbors stare at your house and take pictures? It happened yesterday. We finally came home in the rain and got Court and Kenna in and comfortable when I went to to front door to see if a package had come for me. the package wasn't there but I did see most of my neighbors standing at the end of their driveways taking pictures of my house. I didn't know what it was but thought I should take pictures too. It must be good right?

It was. They said that as soon as I got home the rain stopped and a double rainbow appeared over our house. The reason they were taking pictures was because it was compete, as full as they had ever seen, and a second rainbow around it was just as perfect. I didn't get out there in time to get the whole thing but you can see it was amazing.

Although I don't think this was a sign from God (anyone in Fort Wayne that was looking northwest had the same view we did) but is was encouraging to see the beauty of God at such a draining time.

Things are good. We have a system that has worked so far. (one day) Makenna loves to be awake from 2am to 5am. Daddy gets to have her to himself for a few hours when no one else is around. It's great!

Just like her dad...she wears a hat to hide her hair line.

This is my nephew giving Makenna a kiss.

Makenna Kate Smeltzer

Here she is. I know it's not a great shot but mom and baby had a rough day and night. The stats...Makenna Kate Smeltzer was born on September 28th, weighed 8lbs 9ozs. and was 20 3/4 inches long. In a couple days, I will have more pictures and more energy to describe this amazing day.

Eviction Notice

I think this is a little funny (Don't tell her I think this is funny. pregnancy=hormones=me in trouble) in the first picture, she (and my sister who is due in a few weeks with a girl too) is very happy. This was taken Monday. Now look to the next picture. Just two days later and a completely different demeanor. I have seen this face before...usually I did something uncouth. Don't you feel bad for me.

Our doctor told us she would issue an eviction notice (think "give her a little help figuring out it's time to leave" if "eviction" seems a little strong for you) if she wasn't out by Tuesday (today). She has set for us to deliver on Thursday if she hasn't met us by then. I'm secretly hoping for the 27th though. I was born on April 27th, my nephew; May 27th, married August 27th and my dad's birthday is December 27th. I also have a good high school friend and her kid are born on the 27th's of their months. It would just be easier to remember if she would help us like that.

Well, the next time I'm on here, I will be Papa (think italian) and the wifey will be Mama. Pray for us if you get a chance

Just a few days left.

Well, the end is in sight. Supposedly, Tuesday is armageddon. Look for more pictures Wednesday or early Thursday. Things may change though. You never know. Before long, They'll be calling me daddy.

Now a few pictures of my wife.

Darling isn't she.

The Beginning of the End...as we know it.

There is a point in life where things culminate in a trainwreck of life. No, I don't really know what that means but that's what you would see if you were to look inside my head right now. It kind of makes sense but not really. Got it...

What's in a name. It's loaded. It can't sound like or rhyme with anything that will get her made fun of in elementary in middle school. It can't be the same name as the kid that had lice in 3rd grade or was suspended for drugs in high school. It can't be so many things. The nickname is just as bad. Do you give her a name that can be shortened to a cute little nickname like; Em, Kay, Shan, Mac, Shell, Jax, Molls... There is also the issue of calling her "your little princess" or "sweetpea" or any other little animal nickname. The next thing you know, the baby's whole room will be full of whatever nickname she has. the cycle is endless.

The question of the month Are you ready? What does that mean. Am I ready for what? Yes, we have most of the stuff but we are no means ready. Are we ready for the dirty diapers, first word, first tooth, day of school, class project, sports game, tear, boyfriend, dance, heartbreak, recital, speech, musical, art project, braces, prom, car, graduation, serious boyfriend, serious heartbreak, college, graduation, wedding, walking her down the isle...really, am I ready?

That's just the tip of the iceberg.
I need a nap.

It's been a while but there hasn't been much going on in the baby front. Court's getting bigger and soon enough we will have a little girl. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We just finished the baby's room.
Here are the colors of the room before. As you can see, someone puked on the walls and added a blue something or other to the border. ...not that there's anything wrong with that...

Now we have Dora the Explorer's "Let's Think Pink" I guess when she can tell that colors exist, she'll thank us!

There ya go Abby, we updated it. In a few weeks, we'll have pictures of the little one!

We got our 3D ultrasound today. Isn't it amazing what technology can do these days. Here are a few of the pictures

She sleeps on her arm just like her dad does. (That's her arm coming out on the left side of her face.)

When she started to wake up she rubbed her eye.

We're in the home stretch... the last trimester is finally here. You would think that's why she is so excited. In reality, she just put down her first full caffeine coffee in months.
