Makenna's new bling. :)

After months of begging and stick-on earrings, we decided to let Makenna get her ears pierced. She is more girly than I ever recall myself being, and is obsessed with anything shiny, sparkly, or pretty, as well as skirts, shoes, "pretties" (a.k.a. - hair stuff), and accessories. We usually can't leave the house without the earrings and a necklace, at the very least. She likes things that match... (I got yelled at the other evening at dinner for using a blue plate with a pink cup), she adores chapstick and nail polish, and pretty dresses that twirl. She IS a girly girl. I'm not sure where she gets it from. Certainly not her mother. I live in Jeans, frequently a Cubs hat, and until a month ago owned only 3 items of jewelry other than my wedding rings, and only wore one pair on a regular basis (i.e. everyday). I really don't like dresses, except for formals, but never have a place to wear one. I love Hoodies and flip flops. I don't own a purse at the moment - only the diaper bag and a wristlet type pouch just big enough for the essentials that I can throw in the diaper bag, or carry alone if I happen to be kid-free.

I realize most children have to wait until they are 5 or 10 or 12 or 16 or something. And we pondered that for a long time. But we decided all together to let her do it at the same time as our friend Rowan who is turning 2 on Sept 1, and her mommy picked yesterday. :)

All in all, she was SO GOOD. We talked about it a lot before we went, and Brian even got the brilliant idea to take her there the night before for a walk-through. So the morning of, she climbed right up in the chair as soon as we entered the store and got herself all settled. She was smiling, but serious, and never flinched... until they used the gun (which is significantly smaller than when I got mine done). She cried. For about 30 seconds at which point they gave her a sucker and turned her around in the mirror. All of a sudden, no more tears. She was walking around showing everyone her new earrings... hilarious. She keeps telling me "I didn't like the pinchy part, but I really love my earrings." She had to help Rowan, who probably would have been fine had she not seen Makenna cry. But she assured Rowan that the earrings were pretty and that it didn't hurt anymore.

So that's the story... she's growing up. She grew 3 inches since June (not kidding) and a shoe size since then, as well. She'll be starting a 2 morning preschool this year. And now she has big girl earrings. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure...

Hugging Claire the Bear, who has earrings, as well. :)

Getting the Purple dot of placement

literally one minute later. all better.

it's hard to get a pic of both where you can see both girls' earrings. this is the best we could get.
