Inspired by Heather, I have been thinking about making a reading list for the year. I used to read book after book after book in my younger years. I was one of those kids who had well over 150 books read for the summer library reading program. I LOVED reading. Every book held an adventure for me to escape to, each different and new and exciting. I loved mysteries, war books, books on the Native American culture, and pioneer life... anything that wasn't my normal everyday life was OK by me.
At some point, reading became boring. It started about the same time I had required reading for school. I couldn't get into the books the same way when I had something handed to me. I'm sure it was my attitude and not the book, but since I haven't attempted to read them again I don't know for sure.
Then after it became boring, it became non-existent. I finished school and pretty much stopped reading completely. I lost my passion. Even modern day mysteries were filled with so much that was dark and scary, I couldn't read them without nightmares (casualty of being a mom, I guess). And with that, I threw in the towel on reading.
So, enter Heather's Reading Challenge. I wanted to reply to her post with my list of books for the year, but honestly, I had no idea where to begin. I've been doing a lot of thinking, as you all know, about life and faith and parenting and friendship, etc. So why not start there? No. Who am I kidding? I don't have time to read!!
Tonight, we had some friends over for dinner. Old friends, but friends we haven't spent time with in a while and it was so nice to just relax and hang out and chat. Casie and I started talking about books, book clubs, and the like, and my interest was renewed. I WILL MAKE A BOOK LIST FOR THE YEAR. As soon as she left, I hopped onto the computer and began making my list. I even bought my first eBook to get crackin'.
So here it is (in no particular order):
1) Interrupted: An Adventure in Relearning the Essentials of Faith- Jen Hatmaker
2) Radical: Taking Back Your Faith From the American Dream - David Platt
3) Real Food: What to Eat and Why - Nina Planck
4) Cold Tangerines: Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life - Shauna Niequist
5) Bittersweet: Thoughts on Change, Grace, and Learning the Hard Way - Shauna Niequist
6) The Missional Mom: Living with Purpose at Home and in the World - Helen Lee
7) One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are - Ann Voskamp
8) The Bible. 90 days - cover to cover.
9 - 10) I'm leaving open to add on... since it is January and I'm sure I'll find something else to add in the months to come. If I don't leave space for them, I'll put it off for another year. :)
Do you have a book list?

I'm ordering 1000 Gifts today. The Missional Mons book sounds wonderful, because it's really easy for me to feel like...this is it?? Does my bathing/diaper changing/supper fixing life matter? Looking forward to reading both! And I really want the Pioneer Woman cookbook - does that count?? :)
LOVE it! I agree with Jenny. Missional Mom sounds wonderful. Could we all pick a time to read it together for our own mini-book club so to speak?
FYI... I came over here just in case you had a new post!! Good thing I checked!! :)
Love...
I am currently reading "Scream Free Parenting". I would like to read One Thousand Gifts and The Missional Mom, but it may take me all year to get up the nerve to finish this one!
Not sure if any of you are looking for updates on these comments, but if you are, I just ordered Missional Mom on eBook. Let me know if it's on your current reading list. If not, I'm sure its one I could benefit from reading more than once. :)
