It's a New Dawn, It's a New Day,

Happy New Year! I thought the last two weeks were going to be relaxing and schedule-free. Ha! We had no trouble filling up our calendar . We had a great time with both sides of our families, spent some time with friends, and even crossed a few things of our "to-do" list (just in time to add on some more). Speaking of to-do lists...

Confession: I don't make resolutions. The reason isn't that profound, really. I just don't make them because I never keep them. And besides my affinity for caffeinated beverages, a.k.a. coffee (which post-pregnancy means I'm back to home brew), I don't really have any major vices to give up. I certainly could stand to lose the baby weight, but I'm not beating myself up over it (yet) since the little man is only 3 months.

Don't get me wrong. I have plenty to change. I just don't get all wrapped up in the pressure of being "new" because of the turning numbers on a clock, or the flipping of a calendar page. I am, however, caught up completely in the idea of being "new" in Christ. I am a new creation! I delight in his new mercies every morning! The old has gone, the new has come!

While I have a few things on my list of things to accomplish in this year, like reading the Bible in 90 days (started on the 1st), and spending 31 days praying for specific things for my husband, or working through some things with my accountability partners... I'm doing them because I want to, because I want to be a better me every day of every year. Because if I spend my energy memorizing the truth of scripture because I love the Lord, or praying for my marriage because I love my husband, it will certainly improve my stress (I tend to get caught up in worrying about the details, remember the post on fear?) And if I rest in His strength, there will be no room for fear. And if there is no fear, I will be a better wife, mother, friend.
